Buying a franchise is a much difficult and important decision and here, the viewpoint of the franchisor too plays a big role. That is why many say that franchisors don’t offer franchise business for sale, rather they award a franchise business to worthy candidates. Hence, if you have zeroed down on one franchise, the most important day before starting a franchise will be the Discovery Day.

So, you have to make the most of the Discovery Day. As you will be checking out the franchise, similarly the best franchises in the business checks out the potential franchisees too. The whole chain will depend on the right selection; if they choose someone whose temperament and work ethics don’t gel with their policies, then the chain will suffer for one failed unit. So, here are some steps to follow to ensure that you get to buy a franchise of your dream.

• Dress impeccably: The first impression you put forward will speak a lot about of yourself. If you dress in the sloppiest way possible thinking that you will somehow create an impression; you can’t be more wrong! Top franchises will want only people who are serious about the business and then let them buy a franchise from them. Hence, dressing professionally is the first step in making the most of your discovery day.

• Make sure that people like you: If you think that since you are giving the money, you have all the rights to behave as you like, then your dream of starting a franchise will remain only a dream. Franchise business depends largely on the right chemistry between the franchisor and the franchisee. So, if you come across as a complex and hard-to-please person, then they will rethink on their offering.

• Ensure that you know about the concept: When you go for Discovery Day, make sure that you have done enough investigation about the franchise opportunity. You must carry out comprehensive research of the market to know about the top franchises in the category and the details about the franchisors. Hence, it is very important that you give a thorough reading of the UFOC. If your franchise attorney has pointed out any legal issue that is unclear, don’t forget to ask the franchisor to clarify it.

• Show that you are a good listener: Franchise business is all about the franchisor teaching you how to run the business. So, if you are not a good follower of a system and too much of an independent-spirit, rethink about your decision of starting a franchise.

• Remember to take along your business plan: Your business plan will help in two ways. Firstly, it will show the franchisor that you understand business and secondly, he will become aware of your financial viability. No top franchise will want a franchisee that is neck deep in debt. So, make sure you have a balanced financial plan.

• Be nice to everybody: Being courteous is sign of a gentleman and everyone likes to work with a well-mannered person. So, being nice to the VP of the company as well as the workmen in the plants is a good way to impress the franchisor.
